Klifur

A squishy physics puzzle game by Torfi: click and drag your climber’s hands and feet to reach the target hold. Clear 12 handcrafted levels, then chase the developer’s ghost routes to earn a star on each. An HD remake is planned for Steam—see Torfi’s itch.io devlog for the latest.

Story & gameplay basics

Spoilers kept light—exact hold layouts and solutions stay in the build.

  • Each level is a small boulder-style "problem": you control four limbs independently and pull toward valid grips until you secure the finishing hold.
  • Physics are soft and exaggerated—tiny adjustments and gentle swings beat yanking blindly; limbs have limited reach, so plan your sequence.
  • Progress through twelve levels from the itch.io/HTML5 builds; names and difficulty ramps are part of the charm (community favorites include tough stages like Sandur and Risi).
  • After the campaign, replay for cleaner lines—or beat Torfi’s best route on each level to collect stars if your build exposes that mode.

Levels & star challenges — quick guide

Twelve authored problems ship in the celebrated free build—difficulty climbs fast, so bookmark patience. Below are mentality tips without solution spoilers.

  • Fundamentals. Practice anchoring three points before swinging the fourth; stable triangles beat stretched-out slabs.
  • Reads. Survey the wall for color-coded holds and plausible sequences before you burn attempts—routing matters as much as execution.
  • Momentum. Micro shifts and rhythmic pendulums crack awkward reaches better than brute force.
  • Persistence. Players call out killers like Sandur and Risi for a reason—short breaks reset tilt.
  • Star hunting. When unlocked, chasing Torfi’s reference lines trains efficiency—replay after you know clean beta.

At a glance

What it is
A minimalist indoor-climbing-inspired puzzler built in Unity—no story campaign, just focused climbing problems in the browser.
Tone
Calm, quiet runs (ambient SFX instead of music for many builds) with forgiving squish physics that still punish sloppy beta.
Platforms
This hub embeds klifur.org’s hosted Web player. For the creator’s own HTML5 build, use Run game on itch.io; an HD version is coming to Steam and refreshed itch releases per the devlog.
Credits

Game controls

Unity Web builds keep inputs simple, but framerate and latency still matter—if something feels sticky, reload after drivers update.

  • Mouse (or touch pad): click-drag limbs to reposition; release near a valid grip to attach.
  • Scroll wheel / zoom: only if the embed exposes it—otherwise rely on the in-game camera controls.
  • Keyboard: often unused in the Web port; fall back to pointer controls if hotkeys do nothing.
  • Browser chrome: Escape may hit the page before the game—click inside the frame first so focus stays in WebGL.
  • Audio: some browsers mute sound until you interact after load—tap inside the player once.

How to play

Skim the basics above, then experiment in-game—Klifur teaches by doing more than menus.

  • Pointer play: click a hand or foot, drag toward a hold, release to plant; repeat until you top out. Undo or reset using the in-UI controls if the build exposes them.
  • Browser progress may not persist between sessions or devices (common WebGL limitation). Players have asked itch.io-side saving—watch Torfi’s release notes.
  • Embedded WebGL can differ from the itch tab: blockers, cookies, or GPU drivers may cause glitches—open the klifur.org game URL directly, use itch.io Run game, another browser, or future Steam/standalone builds.
  • Official news, patches, comments, and support live on Torfi’s itch.io page — avoid mirrors you do not trust. Official listing & notes: itch.io

Mobile & browser performance

  • Use an up-to-date Chromium or Safari build; disable aggressive blockers for klifur.org and itch.io embeds.
  • First WebGL load compiles shaders—give it a few seconds and avoid refreshing mid-compile.
  • Landscape + fullscreen (or opening the game URL directly in your browser tab) widens the playfield on phones.
  • Pink triangles or blank frames show up for some Firefox users per community reports—try another browser or the itch HTML5 tab.
  • iPad sessions may lose battery mid-run; without cloud saves you could restart—plan charging or play desktop itch builds when possible.

FAQ

Is this site official?
No. This is an independent fan-operated hub. Klifur is developed by Torfi. For authoritative downloads, devlogs, and comments use https://torfi.itch.io/klifur .
Is this the same Klifur as on itch.io?
Yes—the celebrated free browser puzzler linked from Torfi’s itch page is the same project discussed here; this site simply aggregates helpful entry points.
Why embed klifur.org?
Klifur.org hosts a convenient Web player (https://www.klifur.org/games/klifur/index.html). If embedding fails—blocked cookies, X-Frame issues, extensions—open that URL directly or use itch.io Run game.
Where should I grab updates or installers?
Always start at https://torfi.itch.io/klifur for release notes and official HTML5/downloads. Wishlist/follow HD progress on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4573210/Klifur/
Does Klifur save my progress?
Many Web builds do not persist progress server-side yet—players have requested saves on itch. Treat browser progress as ephemeral unless Torfi publishes new save support.
I only see a black screen or weird shapes in the iframe
Wait for compilation, refresh once, disable extensions, and try GPU-friendly browsers. Persistent WebGL quirks have been echoed in itch comments—fallback to itch.io Run game or Steam when it ships.
Who do I contact for bugs or ideas?
Use the itch.io comments and community tools on Torfi’s page. For issues with this website only, see the Contact page.
